PROFIBUS Troubleshooting: Fast Elimination of Problems in DP Networks

Overview

Eliminating production process problems which arise due to disruptions in the exchange of data via PROFIBUS is a very complex task. Unnecessarily long downtimes also result in high costs. A structured approach to identifying errors can help eliminate avoidable downtimes, increase communication stability and thus prevent future problems.

Softing's PROFIBUS Competence Center, which is certified by the PNO, offers practical training which provides a compact introduction to the basics of PROFIBUS DP. The training focuses on key aspects of the physical and logical analysis of a PROFIBUS network. Mobile analysis tools such as cable testers and protocol analyzers are used for this task.

  • Physical analysis of RS-485 networks, elimination of physical problems
    • General statements on the bus state, recording the temporal and spatial signal level profiles of individual stations
    • Elimination of physical disruptions based on the measurement results
  • Logical analysis of PROFIBUS communication
    • Recording and analysis of PROFIBUS telegrams
    • Using filters to identify errors
    • Correcting/optimizing PROFIBUS parameters based on the measurement results
Target group

The training is aimed at individuals involved in commissioning and maintaining PROFIBUS networks.

The course has been developed especially for those people responsible for ensuring robust communication to guarantee a smooth production process.
